SEZON MUSEUM OF MODERN ART PHOTOGRAPHS BY MIKIYA TAKIMOTO Announcement of the Photobook Release Commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art

About the Photobook
This photobook features 58 photographs, including 23 works newly created by Mikiya Takimoto for the reopening of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art.Nestled in a forest at the foothills of Mount Asama, the museum stands amid a landscape shaped by volcanic eruptions. Since opening in 1981, the museum has continued to explore human emotions and the scenes that unfold beneath the surface of experience through artistic expressions that reflect the spirit of their time. For this project, Takimoto photographed not only the museum’s architecture and garden, but also climbed Mount Asama itself, using a specially designed lens to capture the mountain. By situating the museum within the geological history of the land and the vastness of time that shaped it, this book reveals Takimoto’s distinctive perspective on the museum and its surrounding landscape. The photobook is presented in a substantial hardcover that evokes the museum’s history and the passage of time. The cover features abstract foil stamping reminiscent of cracks in the earth and moss. Deep green on the cover, brighter green foil, and a vivid green endpaper echo the lush vegetation of the garden and the museum’s visual identity, carrying these references through to the finest details of the book’s design. Each photograph is presented individually across a double-page spread, with generous white space that allows every image to stand out.
