Kandinsky
This exhibition was the first solo exhibition in Japan dedicated to the pioneer of abstract painting, Wassily Kandinsky, and was organized with the cooperation of his wife, Nina Kandinsky.Kandinsky is generally regarded as having created his first abstract watercolor in 1910 and his first abstract oil painting in 1911. This exhibition traced his artistic development from nature to abstraction through 43 works, including landscape paintings dating from 1902, before his transition to abstraction.
Among the works exhibited was Division-Unité (1934), executed in oil and sand, which is now in the collection of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art.
