Masayuki Nagare
Selected by the Museum of Modern Art in 1969 as one of seven artists representing the twentieth century—alongside Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miró, Giorgio de Chirico, and Aristide Maillol—Masayuki Nagare gained recognition in the United States before receiving widespread attention in Japan. At the time, opportunities to encounter his work in Japan were limited, apart from several public art commissions.
This exhibition, personally selected by Nagare himself, presented a total of forty-nine works, including his stone sculptures as well as bronze sculptures shown publicly for the first time.Nagare Bachi (1977), exhibited in this exhibition, is now part of the collection of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art.
