Mainly Selected from The Museum Collection-Man Ray

1

Centered on the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, Seibu Takanawa, which had relocated to Karuizawa earlier that year, this exhibition presented approximately 150 works by Man Ray, including objects, paintings, and photographs. As one of the leading figures of Dada and Surrealism, Man Ray played a pivotal role in shaping the artistic developments of the twentieth century.
Beginning around 1975 with acquisitions by the Seibu Museum of Art and subsequently expanded by The Museum of Modern Art, Seibu Takanawa in 1981, the museum’s Man Ray collection grew to nearly sixty works, including objects, paintings, and prints, making it one of the most significant collections of the artist’s work in Japan.
The chronological scope of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art collection begins with Man Ray’s Cubist painting  Le Couple (1914), one of the earliest works represented in the collection.
