Art Today, a series of exhibitions dedicated to presenting the most advanced developments in contemporary artistic expression, particularly in Japanese art, was inaugurated at the Seibu Museum of Art in 1977. From 1986 to 2012, the series continued at The Museum of Modern Art, Seibu Takanawa and subsequently at the Sezon Museum of Modern Art.
Beginning with four artists—Tomiaki Yamamoto, Atsuhito Sekiguchi, Masaharu Takasaki, and Hirohisa Nakahara—the series introduced a wide range of artists, including Kazumi Nakamura, Kenjiro Okazaki, Hideyuki Nagasawa, Yuji Akatsuka, Keita Egami, Tadanori Yokoo, Yukie Ishikawa, Yumi Domoto, Yutaka Matsuzawa, Yukihisa Isobe, Asae Soya, Masato Kobayashi, Takashi Murakami, Tatsuo Miyajima, and Meo Saito, among many others. Many works first presented through the Art Today exhibitions later entered the collection of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art.
