For this exhibition, the common point between the three artists is that the works are created by making “Memory” the theme. Yoichiro Yoda, using its original dépaysement technique, paints his favorite movie scene and the lament of his beautiful object of memory being destroyed in New York. Yasumi Hakoshima, with her memories of when she stayed in Asia during childhood, prepares extreme color contrasts and light into a beautiful Trompe-l’œil. And Taishi Hatayama, from his trip in Finland, expresses the “Re-experience of the past in the present” using abstract art; making light and memory burned into the retina his theme. Although both the career and background differs, we hope you enjoy the epic works of magnificence by these three artists making “Memory” their theme.

Avant-garde art, which sprouted in Europe with Paris being the center of the scene in the early 20th century has crossed the pacific ocean, and has made a broad spread in New York where it escaped the fire of World War II. On the other hand, although being influenced by the art movement in Europe and America, various artists with their own mind and expression, which was not only a copy of the West have emerged one after another in post-war Japan.
An exhibition will be constructed with the theme being the following three cities of Paris(once called the city of art), New York(where avant-garde art such as pop-art gave birth),and Tokyo(evolving in its own way being influenced by the two cities mentions); tracing the flow of Modern Art up to the present.

Sezon Museum of Modern Art is known for its quality over quantity. The reasoning behind why it is not comprehensive like it is in art history is due to the base being strictly work-centered, based on sensibility. The <Beauty> appearing in each work, and the <Art> that passes along that with an impression is thought as an irreplaceable thing.
At any rate, <Beauty> is diverse, and so is <Art>. It can be said that this is the origin for how art works have been kept created. Even the oldest antiques were contemporary art when it gave its birth during that era.
For this exhibition, collections from the Takanawa Art Museum which is the predecessor of Sezon Museum of Modern Art will be exhibited by special <Release>. We await for those who seek to encounter the beauty and art going beyond time. First visitors are also welcomed.

What is the color of romance?
“The true essence of romance is freedom.” is a quote by Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the Romantic English poets during the 19th century. “Romance = Freedom” At times is an extension of nothing else but a one-way selfishness, blindness, and self-love. That is why it has to be “Black”, a color that does not dye into any other colors.
Romance at times, holds the potential to grow into “Love” exceeding that emotion self-love. According to the oldest epic of mankind, Epic of Gilgamesh, those descriptions can be seen. Like the Tale of Genji, which is the oldest novel in the world written during the Heian-era in Japan, numbers of works were created by artists from romance being its inspiration in the contemporary art.
For this exhibition, making the essence of romance the focal point, obtaining the idea of “Romance” with the broad sense of “Thinking about the place and thing in the past”, not only with works related to romance but works resembling romance are displayed subjectively. We hope for this exhibition to be the cause for everyone to experience that heartbeat once again.

Is 「UNTITLED」a title of the work? Or is a meaning that the title is not there? That is, the fundamental question of Contemporary Art.
Many titles of representational works are named after what describes the name of that phenomenon, like “Nude”, “Self-Portrait”, and “Mount Fuji”. What the title shows exists outside of the work, and the work itself is the visual aspect of it.
On the other hand, for abstract art where the outer existence is not represented, the work itself is everything. Perhaps, instead of answering what symbolizes the work, “UNTITLED” and “無題” is there the explain. In that sense, there is no doubt that “UNTITLED” and “無題” are the most pure, bold, and independent expression of creativity.
For this exhibition, starting with works that are “UNTITLED” and “無題”, title of the works being the minimum number of words and numbers along with works opposing that style by vigorously putting emphasis on the title will be displayed. As a part of the new creation of the works, please enjoy the named “UNTITLED” and various other titles.
