In 1995, Horizon: Apocalypse, an exhibition of collaborative works by Keiji Usami and the poet Tsujii Takashi (the pen name of Seiji Tsutsumi), was held at Nantenshi Gallery. Following the exhibition, Silver Grey (1994–1995), from the artist’s book Horizon: Apocalypse, and the eight drawing series Horizon: Apocalypse—Eight Focuses (1994–95) entered the museum’s collection.Usami maintained a close relationship with the Saison group throughout his career. He participated in A View of Japanese Contemporary Art, the inaugural exhibition of the Seibu Museum of Art in 1975, and was among the artists featured in the first Art Today exhibition in 1977. His first major retrospective, Keiji Usami Retrospective: Reconsidering the Construction of the World, was subsequently held at the Sezon Museum of Art in 1992.
Usami also shared a longstanding relationship with Tsujii Takashi. Notably, Usami’s Wandering / After Hiroshima (2005), now in the museum’s collection, was used for the cover design of Tsujii’s final poetry collection, “Shi ni Tsuite” (2012).
