Sezon Museum of Modern Art Collection Exhibition
“Scenery Only Seen from There”
June 26 (Fri) – August 23 (Sun), 2026
The Sezon Museum of Modern Art celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, having first opened its doors in Karuizawa in 1981.
Following a two-year closure, the museum will reopen in June 2026 with renewed spaces and a renewed vision, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
What happens when you place yourself in an unfamiliar environment and encounter art in a different way than before? Free from preconceived notions, imagination may begin to work in unexpected ways, releasing us from the search for fixed answers and allowing new perceptions to emerge.
Each visitor arrives with their own experiences, perspectives, discoveries, and paths taken. Where did you come from? What did you pass through? Why does something appear the way it does from where you stand?
Rather than imposing a predetermined narrative, this exhibition invites each visitor’s experience to become the story itself. We invite you to return to your own point of view and quietly witness the miracles that can only be seen from there.

Located at the foot of Mt. Asama, the museum offers more than an opportunity to view artworks. Visitors are invited to experience the entire environment, including the architecture, gardens, and surrounding nature, at a leisurely pace.
Spend time with the artworks, stroll through the gardens, and reflect in the museum café.
Admission includes organic tea and traditional Japanese dry sweets. Together with the changing light, air, and seasons, these moments offer a unique experience that can only be enjoyed at that particular time and place.
We value each visitor’s individual pace and perspective, encouraging a variety of discoveries and encounters throughout the museum.
